The Department of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition was established on 20 July 1982 under the Faculty of Agriculture of Trakya University. Between 1982 and 1985, it operated as the Department of Soil Science. The department was formally established in 1985 and began admitting students under the name Department of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition after 1991. Following the establishment of Namık Kemal University in 2006, the Faculty of Agriculture was transferred to Namık Kemal University. The department currently continues its educational and instructional activities within Namık Kemal University.
